Thinking about redecorating our spare room later this year and would like a few diy tips about our plasterboard walls.

Have always papered our internal walls due to plasterboard not being completly smooth,

This time i would like to paint only the wall's but need to get the walls in a good smooth condition, what products could i use as a diy'er to lightly skim any rough area's of the wall's to a good standard.

Items like Poly-skim was in my mind any other tips please.

  1. Why have you got such rough walls?Has the old wallpaper been stripped and taken the plasterboard surface off? If it`s just a case of getting a few dents out, then Steve has the right idea, filling and sanding.Something else you could try is a product called Dulux Flexicoat. You first brush some on any slight dents or cracks, then apply a coat over the whole wall with a roller.I`ve found it very useful for walls and ceilings with lots of small dents and cracks `cos there`s always the odd 1 or 2 that you miss and don`t find out till you`ve put the paint on!

  2. It's common practice and more cost affective to sand the wall down, fill any holes etc then line with 1000g Lining paper then paint.
