Question:

Plastic Retainer Cleaning?

Alright I've had my braces off since last year and I have a plastic retainer (one that fits on the top of my teeth and one that fits on the bottom.) Since it's been quite awhile (and I've been cleaning with toothpaste) Now there is some sort of gunk on them and it looks and smells pretty nasty (blocks the clearness too, all you can see is basically gunk) I usually washed it with whatever was left on my toothbrush when I was done, rinsed it with warm/cold water, and made sure everything was gone (toothpaste stuff basically.)

I've tried scraping at it with a Toothpick and no luck getting the gunk off, I've tried a knife but I almost broke it. I've also been to the orthodontist a few months ago and he said he will probably replace them the next time I come, so should I wait or should I just ask now?

  1. you could always brush the retainer with the tooth brush. also get a new tooth brush, it sounds like the old one is too old. that smell is definetally plaque, i get that smell all the time. try soaking in mouth rinse/wash, and that always works. just wait until he replaces them.

  2. if he is going to replace it then why are you even worried?

    it could be plaque, grody
