Plastic bad microbe?

Theres a lot of stuff going round the internet about a Canadian teenager who has isolated the microbe that decays plastic bags. It typically takes years to destroy plastic bags but with the microbe he has found it takes months. Link here: http://news.therecord.com/article/354044

I'm worried that the microbe could effect other plastics and cause lots of decay, is this an irrational worry?
