  1. That cage is a rat cage. The wheel isn't even a foot tall. You can use it, as long as you take out the wheel and replace it with one that's bigger.  Here's some other suitable, affordable cages for you :)

^ This one is PERFECT!!! And only $20 dollars more! Big enough for 2 chinchillas, too. It says ferret cage but if you read the reviews it makes a good chin cage! And with this one, you don't need a wheel (Although it would be nice) because there's plenty of levels to give your chinchilla the space it deserves.  I would definately without a doubt go with this one. You can also do these, though: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js...

^ cheap, but not big enough for two and you chinchilla needs lots of time out of the cage to run

^ The only problem with this is that the floor is wire, and you need to put down a towel, and bedding on top of that to make sure his feet won't fall through.

I would highly recommend the first one I put if you want the happiest chinchilla! :) good luck!

  2. I had a chinchilla for quite a few years and I recommend a wire, two-level cage with a large wheel. You want the animal to have enough space to move around and get exercise.

Plastic is more likely to breed bacteria and molds.

  3. Too small, Chinchillas need massive amounts of room, not only that but they hate to be alone, they're best socialized in groups of two or three. Don't worry about the plastic they're not to stupid they chew it but don't eat it, or at least mine don't. I have two chins and my cage I feel is still too small. The link to my cage is here http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/pr...

Chinchillas need a lot of attention and cost a lot. They live for up to 20 years so this is a long term commitment. Get a few Chinnie books and read them they will differ in a few things but be relatively the same. Do not impulse buy a Chinchilla, and what ever you do get the biggest cage you can fit they jump really high and need hight. Most ferret cages are good. You are going to need to buy a heavy dutey wheel, you can't use the regular plastic one chins are too big

that is the wheel you will need to get.

    A good site is http://chinchilla.ca/

I buy most of my Chinchilla specifics from there.

DO YOUR RESEARCH and save the money to have everything ready before your chin comes home, if you do not it can stress the chin and will severely risk his or her health.

    Have fun

  4. Both of those cages are way too small for a chinchilla, and they will just chew the plastic anyways and ruin the cage. The thrid cage is large enough, but you would need to remove the plastic shelves. Wire cages are fine, and aren't as dangerous as you seem to think they are. But if you don't have enough money to buy a big enough cage, you obviously don't need to be getting a chinchilla. Chinchillas can live anywhere from 10-20 years. Are you still in school? What will you do with your pet when you go to college? What if you're not able to take your friend with you? If you do get a chinchilla, you'll want to look into getting two, since chinchillas are social animals. Cage wise, something more along the lines of these would be suitable. The second cage has a seed pan meant for bird use, but in the case of chinchillas, would work for catching p**p, which will find it's way onto your floor.
