  1. this is the mid-Atlantic plate boundary, but it is the mid-Atlantic sea floor spreading area which runs down the length from the north Atlantic to the south Atlantic all along this area the plates being pushed up and away from each other and as it does this it builds mountains on ether side of the continents which in turn makes volcano's and Iceland is sitting right in the middle of the Atlantic ridge they have very active volcano's on the island country. the related things are hot springs caused by the magma moving underground on the inland they use this energy to heat there homes, and ther hot houses. So Iceland is sitting on the longist hot spot.

  2. Divergent boundary

Iceland is one of only a few places on the Earth where a divergent boundary can be seen above sea level.

Currently, the plates (North American and Eurasian plates) are moving apart at a rate of approximately 2 centimeters per year. This means that Canada is moving further away from Europe each year.

Volcanic material is brought to the surface on such a regular basis that it has formed its own volcanic island. This hot spot of volcanic activity has formed many volcanoes (example: Eldfell Volcano) and caused many earthquakes within the country.

The hot magma is so close to the surface in Iceland that geothermal energy is considered one of their natural resources.

I consider the formation of Surtsey Island to be one of the most interesting features formed by volcanic activity in Iceland.
