UEFA president http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michel-c25453 Platini has insisted that the Champions League and UEFA Europa League could be merged in the near future. The newly formed Europa League has been criticised because a number of clubs from top divisions do
not play their strong teams in the competition.
As a result, speculation is that the event could be scrapped in the not too distant future and the Champions League will be expanded to 64 teams. Therefore, accommodating the Europa League sides into Europe’s Premier club competition.
The former France international previously claimed that UEFA was planning to make some changes to both tournaments, and he stated that a final decision will be confirmed in two years time. He suggested that the governing body is
looking into the matter when inquired about the future of the formerly known UEFA Cup.
The former Juventus and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AS-Nancy-c38468 attacking midfielder added that the issue has been discussed several times and said that their formats between 2015 and 2018 are the key topics. However, the talks have just started and nothing
concrete has come forward until now.
"It is something that we are discussing. There's an ongoing debate about the concept of the European competitions between 2015 and 2018. It's being discussed and a final decision will be made in 2014. Nothing has been finalised
yet," the former player added.

"This is a matter that regularly comes up, but it does not worry me to be honest. I can't see how it would work outside the framework of Uefa,” he mused.

"Who would referee the games? Where would the games be played? Do a lot of people really want it? I don't think so," he finally concluded.
Platini then revealed that a prospective European Superleague could also be organised, and said that he was not concerned about the future of the game with this new idea. He conceded that it is not realistic as no one would be
able to make it work outside the management of UEFA.
