Platini backs FA’s decision to ban Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson and striker Wayne Rooney

UEFA president, Michel Platini, has backed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736.
Rooney was handed a two-match ban for using foul words in-front of the camera after scoring a hat-trick in United’s 4-2 win over West Ham United on April 2, 2011. The striker had to miss a Premier League game against Fulham and the FA Cup semi-final against
Manchester City at the Wembley Stadium. United missed Rooney’s services in the FA Cup encounter as they suffered a 1-0 defeat, which shattered their dreams of winning a treble in the current season.
On the other hand, Sir Alex Ferguson was handed a five-match touchline ban for criticising referee Martin Atkinson’s decisions in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Ferguson blamed referee for giving several decisions in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s favour
and believes that he played a big role in United’s defeat.
Platini reckons that FA made the right decision as there should be a zero tolerance policy and everyone should follow the discipline of the game. The former French International added that referees deserve respect and the decisions can go wrong and nobody
does it intentionally.
Talking to the reporters, Platini said, "Sometimes we have some people who don't respect the referee. Perhaps, in my career, I sometimes didn't respect the referee because I was nervous. [Wayne] Rooney and Alex Ferguson, they will regret what they have done
because it's in the moment.”
"I can understand but they made a mistake and they were banned for these disciplinary matters. Sometimes you can be not so happy but we are here to protect the game. We have regulations to protect the referee. The referees have to be protected because the
game has to be protected." added the UEFA president
The 55-year-old added that he, being a former footballer himself, understands that players get frustrated when decisions are not going their way but if anyone crosses the line, than he has to face the consequences.
