Platinum Weddings. Who are these people and why do they get to show their weddings on t.v.?

BTW, would it not be funny if some of these couples did not last for more than five years?

These are girls , who want to show the world they got the rich guy, and guys who want to let the world know they've got the money

Rich people. Oil heirs, bankers, real estate moguls, no one really famous but incredibly rich. Not any different from any other wedding show just with more money to spend. I don't find divorce funny. Nor do I understand why people wish ill on couples who have those large expensive weddings like that.

For the most part, they are people who actually ARE rich and are planning an in-your-face, over-the-top wedding and they want everybody to see. Note: the in-your-face is the most important feature.  You will also note that every wedding has an experienced and professional wedding planner, which is really what makes it all work.

And while lots of folks want to hunker down and see how long the marriage lasts, the divorce rate among the rich is actually quite low.  On the plus side, think of all the people they employ!

I'm sure some of them don't last for more than 5 years, and no, I don't think it's funny. Most people in the US get divorced within 3 years. Many of them are still paying for their over-the-top weddings. Number one reason for divorce:  money and debt issues.

Very, very sad.
