Play Battlefield 3 and win up to $1,600,000 in the Worldwide Conquest Tournament
Electronic Arts are holding a Battlefield 3 tournament and have announced that the prizes on offer will amount to no less than $1.6-million or $1,600,000, for those who want to see exactly how large that figure is.
The tournament is offering the ‘biggest console cash prize pool in gaming history’, which should be a reason enough to get Battlefield 3 that extra bit of publicity ahead of the game’s imminent release in October.
The Worldwide Conquest Tournament is a result of a partnership between the game’s publisher, Electronic Arts and Virgin Gaming. Although, the tournament itself will start next year, the hype surrounding it and Battlefield 3 itself is astronomical.
Taking place online, the clash of Battlefield 3 titans will see some of the best players and teams take each other in some of the most hotly contested battles to date, or at least that is what the two parties behind the tournament are hoping.
The grand finale will be broadcast live over the internet for every Battlefield fan and gamer alike, to witness the hot lead filled spectacle. According to both the parties behind the tournament ‘(Worldwide Conquest is) where the players with the best Battlefield skills’ will culminate and be rewarded for their prowess and skill in the game.
The founder of Virgin Gaming, Zachary Zeldin also added, “We’re (Virgin Gaming) always looking to raise the bar for our members, to give them truly epic gaming experiences they won’t find anywhere else and Battlefield 3 hits the mark.” Before continuing, “This partnership with EA and DICE is exactly the kind of relationship it takes to deliver on that goal, and we can’t be more excited to be working with them to host the greatest competitive gaming event I’ve ever seen.”
Brave words by the Virgin Gaming founder, but he does have plenty to be optimistic about as the trailers and demos of the game have been nothing short of spectacular.
One can also see why EA will be backing this tournament with all its might, as its fiercest rival, Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will also be looking to do something similar when their game releases as well.
Both titles are looking to attract first-person shooter (FPS) fans to their respective title, as both are targeting, in essence, at the game core demographic.
However, the success of the tournament will depend on the success of the game itself. If Battlefield 3 fails to live up to the hype, then the tournament may very well be a disaster. If, however, Battlefield 3 impresses, then one can expect the tournament to be more than just a small marketing success.
