If I buy a Blu Ray burner, will it play commercial movies to my plasma if I hook them up with a HDCP ready GeForce 8600 GT thru DVI-HDMI just AS any standalone player? Will it be also able to rip/burn those movies? Thanks.

  1. Yes, you could play the movies through your computer.  A couple of software suites already have Bluray playback compatibility.

You will be able to rip/burn those movies, but in order to crack the encryption on them, that involves a violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, making that act illegal.  Though it's legal to have a personal backup copy.  Go figure.  To do something legal you have to do something illegal first.

But not just that, it's going to be pretty dang expensive to burn all those movies, since the price of BD media is still high.  And unless you grab a pretty large external harddrive, those movies are going to take up a lot of space.
