Play mas solo or not at all?

I am deciding on if I should "Play Mas Solo or not play at all." I would like to play mas with a band such Island People, Trini Revellers, or Harts. I am 25 yr old male from Miami, Fl.

However, my homeboy who is from Trinidad does not want to play mas.

He thinks I am limiting myself by playing in a band in terms of meeting women, experiencing Carnival, and cost of the band. I will be staying at his place for 1 week. Feb.1st - Feb8th. He stays in San Fernando.

Therefore, if I play mas....it will be solo since he does not want to play. I want to meet different ladies, dance soca and get the full experience of Trinidad. This will be my first carnival so I figure go all out and pay the $400US for the 2 days. (Mon., Tues.)

What do you think about this?

  1. If this is your first time heading down to t&t, then you shouldn't play mas alone. i am assuming that because other than your friend, you don't know no one else in trinidad.  i am pretty sure there will be enough fetes happening during carnival time where you can dance to soca and meet women.  you don't have to play mas just to women.  but it's up to you with what you wanna do.

btw, if you want to get more responses, it's best you go the trinidad and tobago section here in the travel section, asking this question.
