Question:

Play problem.?

I'm getting this error message when trying to play music in the Yahoo Music Jukebox:

Playback engine could not play the file because the specified protocol is not supported, If you typed a URL in the open URL dialogue box try using a different transport protocol. Any help? I read on an earlier post to update windows media player... I'm currently using ver11. This does not seem like a problem with WMP; I'm not trying to play the file in WMP, I'm using Yahoo Music Jukebox.

Thanks!

  1. Yahoo sometimes needs codecs that are supplied with WMP.  See this link that explains codec:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codec

If you are playing music under YMJ that you provided, the codec for that music may not be available.  The suffix of the songs name usually determines the type of codec needed.

Also when you use Launchcast under Internet Explorer, you are really using parts of WMP.   So WMP is important and does influence Yahoo! software.  Yahoo! system requirements for YMJ require WMP 10 or higher for Yahoo Unlimited.

Getting back to your problem, you should indicate what you were doing under YMJ (e.g., Launchcast,  using a playlist, downloading) and indicate if this is music that came from outside YMJ and if so the fully qualified song name (the computer file name).

Make sure your YMJ is at the latest Version (2.2.1.039).  Uninstall via add or remove programs.  Download from:

Uninstall WMP 11 via add or remove programs.  Download from:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows...

    Run Windows Update.

If you unfortunately still get the same problem, then time to contact Yahoo:

The reason I ask you to uninstall and re-install before contacting Yahoo is to avoid the Yahoo run-a-round meaning they will probably ask you to do that first.
