  1. I am not sure exactly because I have heard some debate from the side of anthropology/bio-psychology.  Adaptive is more for maintenance, survival or reproducing. Humans engage in play to focus on the means (how it feels= experience) rather than the ends.  I would say none of these probably.  If I had to make a choice I would say animals because the argument would be that the motivation would be solely on survival/reproduction.  I hope that helps?
