Play write doesnt know how to get started?

I am a play write and I have completed my first play, and I am starting on my second. I need to know how I can start selling my plays to theaters? Thanks a lot!

  1. Look around at the theatres near you and see if there's one or more that produce the kind of plays you write.  When you find a theatre you might be interested in your work, go their web site and see if they accept submissions of plays from playwrights, and what their rules are.

    Many theatres will accept submissions from playwrights, sometimes of the whole play, sometimes of the first ten pages with a synopsis of the play.  When you have submitted a play, then you wait.

    There are also a couple of places that offer lists of submission opportunities and contests.  Here's one of them:

    If you're really serious, Theatre Communications Group (www.tcg.org) publishes a book called The Dramatists Sourcebook which is full of information about how to submit plays, where to find other playwrights in development groups, and contests.
