I live in England, UK and I am thinking of buying a PlayStation 3 as far as I know the controller that comes with the PS3 that I'm looking to buy is a SIXAXIS controller. and the new controller has only DualShock3, but is there no controller that has both SixAxis and DualShock3?? I am buying my console from HMV (UK) and it is the 80GB model with just the console and one controller - no games.

This is because I went into a store called GAME which is the equivalent to the store GameStop (USA) and they have loads of offers in store on controllers and one offer read:

PS3 DualShock3 controller = £14.99 ($30) if you trade in your PS3 SixAxis controller

  1. The Dualshock 3 has everything the Sixaxis has. But it also has vibration function. Making it much better.

The 80GB comes with the DS3 so you don't need to worry about the controller being incompatible with a particular game. You can use either DS3 and 6axis and the only difference will be the lack of rumble in the latter.

Game-wise, you should get Resistance: Fall of Man. Platinum edition is only £20 in HMV. :) Either that or Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. Also £20 and with the added bonus of trophy support.

    Enjoy!

  2. If you are planning on purchasing another controller id get a DS3 ( what my second is) but if you are just using one controller it is not worth it, really the only games you get much interaction with the environment with is  Gran Turismo prologue at the moment so I would keep my $30 until I planned on purchasing another one. Also the Sixaxis system (which i hate) is programmed into both so if it is a necessity to use you have the option of enabling it. Also it is necessary in certain games like heavenly sword.

  3. When the PS3 came out only the Sixaxis was available and many people wanted the rumble feature.  So they recently released the Dualshock 3 which has Sixaxis capabilites and rumble.

  4. The DS3 controller has the same motion detection as the Sixaxis.

  5. The Sixaxis has motion-sensing and ONLY motion-sensing.

However, the DualShock 3 has BOTH vibration and motion-sensing, if you look on the back of the controller, it will be labeled in blue "Dualshock 3" with "Sixaxis" on the bottom

  6. The Dualshock 3 controller is the same as the SIXAXIS controller, but it has the rumble feature (on the controller itself, it says "Dualshock 3" and SIXAXIS).  So, it's capable of motion sensing.  If you want the PS3 with the Dualshock 3 controller, you should wait till fall.  They will release a new 80GB core PS3 with the dualshock 3 controller for the same price as the 40GB PS3 is right now.  The 80GB core is the same as the 40GB PS3, the only difference is the hard drive size.
