With the “companion app” out of the way it is now time to turn our attention to the transactional aspects of the game.
The executive producer of Dust 514, Brandon Laurino, announced the “companion app” for Dust 514 which gamers could download on to their PlayStation Vita consoles.
The app would allow them to strategize with their fellow teammates and customize their players on the fly with the PlayStation Vita while they played the game on their PlayStation 3 consoles.
Sony will be pleased by the move as they seem to need all the help they can get as sales figures for the PlayStation Vita are disappointing to say the least.
Turning our attention back on to Dust 514 and all the information that Mr. Laurino revealed, it would be wise to remind everyone that the game is free-to-play.
At the same time however, there will be starter packs available for purchase that will allow players extra currency in the game when they are redeemed.
“We probably will still have some kind of pack like that.” Hinted a teasing Mr. Laurino.
He went on to explain that the starter packs would not give anyone an unfair advantage and that earning them in game or purchasing would not make much of a difference in terms of granting one party any undue benefits.
“It’s very important as we take steps into this topic to unambiguously state that it is not a pay to win game. There is no micro-transaction that you can do that gives you an unfair advantage over someone who hasn’t paid anything.”
He elaborated, “It’s the classic micro-transaction dynamic of, ‘I can pay and get this item,’ or, ‘I can invest my time and get this item.” But neither of those options will give me an unfair advantage over the other.”
Dust 514 is still in development with CCP claiming that four maps are currently being worked on to be made ready for the game’s release. The developer also claimed that more maps would be released afterwards and that they too would be free to download and
play for anyone who chose to do so.
