PlayStation 3 still very much alive
Despite its age, Sony’s current-generation console PlayStation 3 is still has a strong presence in the market, something that neither the company main competitor Microsoft, nor its other competitor Nintendo can deny or ignore.
At the time the console hit the retail stores, which was in November 2006, nobody had any doubt that it was the strongest video game console to have ever been made. Sony had clearly put in a lot of effort to make a console that made one think for a moment
that maybe the console can put computers off the main stage in terms of performance. This, however, was a bit of an exaggerated optimism on part of the Sony enthusiasts and even an average gamer.
With that being said, one simply cannot argue over the fact that PlayStation 3 was and still is one of the best consoles out there.
The industry analysts have been screaming and whining since months, pressurising the likes of Sony and Microsoft to launch a new console and strengthen their presence in the market before the likes of smartphones and tablets push them out of it for good.
According to the industry analysts, the current generation consoles have already enjoyed an extended life and are beginning to lose their appeal.
This, however, is not the case. Sony had done an exceptional job of making the console future-proof for another three-to-four years. Bringing the capabilities of the hardware and its limitations in the spotlight, the analysts had predicted aged gaming consoles
would lead to a complete shutdown of the video game industry.
According to them, whichever company took the initiative of bringing a new and powerful console to the market would put themselves in a great position get a strong hold of the market. Nintendo paid heed to this analysis and launched the first next-generation
console Wii U in the final quarter of 2012.
Whoever thought that PlayStation 3 would lose its supporters to Nintendo’s new console was clearly delusional.
Third-party support for Sony’s current-generation console is what is really keeping it still alive and very strong in the market. Taking a look at the recent games that released for the PlayStation 3 highlight the fact that the hardware is even more powerful
than what has been believed in recent times. The graphics of Tomb Raider, God of War: Ascension, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, etc. Highlight the fact that the console is capable of supporting outstanding graphics and need little to no improvement.
Now that Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 3 successor will be arriving in the market in the final quarter of this year, it remains to be seen if the company continues its support for what has proven to be a cash cow for you over the last fast years.
