PlayStation 3s prepare for the PlayStation Vita with a firmware update, v4.0 to bring two together
Sony have announced that firmware update 4.0 is on its way to PlayStation 3 consoles in the near future and will make the current console compatible with the upcoming PlayStation Vita.
According to reports the firmware update is set to hit all the major regions, most probably in phases as Sony prefers doing it that fashion, later on this week, which would be in the next three to four days.
The firmware update will allow the console and the PlayStation Vita to easily exchange data, which can range from game saves, music, games themselves, photos and videos. It will allow the PlayStation 3 to become a back up for the handheld gaming console
and help to free up some space as well.
The PlayStation 3 can also then be used to “update the system software” of both consoles apparently and the list of features seems to go on and on, though none of them as major as the ones discussed above.
There are also tweaks apart from those related to the Vita in the update as PlayStation Plus, or premium subscription members, will be able to make use of a number of new features for the PlayStation 3 console as well.
These include the ability to enable or disable the automatic updates for system software, game patches, recommended game as well as videos. Games can also choose to disable the ‘sync trophy’ option as well.
Sony seems to be making preparations ahead of the December release of its next generation of handheld portable gaming console, the PlayStation Vita in Japan. However, gamers in other regions can also purchase a unit from Japan seeing how the console is not
region locked.
The Vita made the headlines when it was officially unveiled at the Electronic Entertainment Expo is San Diego earlier this year, and the steady stream of announcements have also kept consumers and the gaming world a little more than interested.
The price points revealed for the Vita brought about a cheer from the crowd at the Sony Press Conference at E3 and the day one games list also makes for some attractive reading with titles such as Uncharted: Golden Abyss and WipEout 2048 set to be available
on launch.
Gamers in Europe and the United States will have to wait until early 2012 before the PlayStation Vita officially launches in those respective regions, yet again it must be pointed out that the Vita is not region locked meaning gamers can easily import the
console, provided of course there is a language setting which players can alter.
Whether or not the PlayStation Vita ends up a success story is a whole other matter entirely, however Sony remain optimistic.
