Sony are set to carry out further maintenance on the PSN with a number of services going offline, yet players can still take part in online multiplayer modes.
This will be the second time in around a month that the PlayStation Network will be taken offline for maintenance, however this time around it will be less of an inconvenience to gamers.
The services and features that are scheduled to be taken down temporarily include the Sony’s online digital distribution platform, the PlayStation Store. The Store will be offline for both console users and will not be accessible on PCs or PlayStation certified
devices either.
PlayStation’s interactive social platform, PlayStation Home, will also be not be accessible as gamers will have to find other ways to keep themselves busy.
Lastly, during this time no new accounts can be created as registration will also be closed, as will the ‘Account Management’ section. In essence, one will not be able to make any changes to his or her account during the downtime.
Now that we have the details of what PlayStation users cannot do, it would be wise to find out when they will not be able to access the Network and when they will finally be able to do so again.
The PSN will be taken offline on the 2nd of February, which is this Thursday, at 2:00PM GMT. It is scheduled to be back up online and running at 8:00AM the next morning, which puts the total downtime to 18hours.
The previous maintenance check took place bang on schedule and gamers should expect the same level of punctuality this time around as well.
So anyone who planned on purchasing anything via the PlayStation Store on Thursday, or hang out with their friends on PlayStation Home will have to wait until Friday morning before they will be able to do so.
On the other hand, they could always play online, like a majority of gamers do.
There was also a disclaimer on the PlayStation Blog which explained that if users are signed in at the start of the maintenance they would remain so, however they would not be able to make use of any of the services mentioned above.
