PlayStation users will not be able to access a number of PSN’s services from 4pm GMT up until 5am tomorrow as Sony announced they will be carrying out maintenance during that time.
A bit of frustrating news for PlayStation users who were planning to spend their Thursday night divulged in playing their favourite game online with friends and strangers alike, as Sony are set to run heavy duty maintenance on their online service.
As for the services that are confirmed to be taken offline are the PlayStation Store (across all of Sony’s platforms, which include the PlayStation 3 console, as well as the PlayStation Portable and Media Go service) as well as PlayStation Home.
Users will also be restricted from accessing their Network Registration and Account Management during this time as well, and almost just for fun it seems Sony have thrown in their Music and Video Unlimited services as well.
In short, no going or doing anything online on any PlayStation device for at least 13 hours beginning 4pm.
However, the consumer electronics giant did have one piece of good news for everyone as they explained in a statement that, “Users who are already signed into their account on PlayStation Network before the start of the maintenance should be able to stay
signed in to their online session, but will not be able to access any of the services listed above.”
As for the large amount of trophy hunters out there, there is good news as well as taking the servers offline will not affect gamers from collecting trophies in any game. Any trophy earned will be updated to the user’s online profile as and when the PlayStation
Network comes online again.
If the reader is still reading at this point then either he does not have a PlayStation 3 or he (or she) has not realized that if they sign in before 4pm today they can stay signed and play online even while the blackout is in effect.
This is the reader’s cue to get up, switch on his PlayStation console, sign in and keep it that way and he best tell his friends to do so too.
