The third part of our special coverage of the Vita’s worldwide release Jonathan Fargher explains that the console will make use of the Remote Play feature in future.
It is time to move on from Fergal Gara, who pointed out that http://www.senore.com/PlayStation-Vita-News-Roundup-Part-2-Cross-platform-adds-value-a131467 would be a major part of the PlayStation experience as it linked both the PlayStation 3 and the portable console.
All the Sony executives seem to be playing the same tune, though with different instruments (no pun intended). The senior PR manager for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Jonathan Fargher, explained that rumours claiming the Remote Play feature, that would allow the Vita to stream PlayStation 3 games, had been blocked were not true.
“We haven’t blocked it. We showed the Killzone camera, streaming games to the PS Vita, but regarding that specific feature, we’ll be making more announcements in the near future.”
From that statement one can deduce that the Vita is capable of streaming PS3 games but that Sony is still working out the kinks. He continued in that teasing tone, “As you know, PS3 firmware updates add new functions all the time.”
The next statement went along the same lines as well, “I think we’re getting our heads around what it is we want people to be able to do, and what we should promote. With or without remote access, I think there’s a huge amount in cross-play that remains to be explored.”
So in essence all of that suggests that the ability to stream games on the Vita is doable but remains blocked, whereas other features that fall under the Remote Play category will still be accessible.
When asked to elaborate, Mr. Fargher replied, “We wanted to keep the message simple at the start”. It turns out Sony did not want to overwhelm the consumer base and will reveal more features and capabilities of the Vita in the near future.
That is it for www.dbuz.com’s coverage of the PlayStation Vita for now. Keep it here for the latest news in the world of video games.
