PlayStation Vita gets FIFA 12 in all its glory, not a port for the portable system but a full on game
Electronic Arts have announced that their best selling football simulation series will be making its debut on Sony’s handheld portable gaming console, the PlayStation Vita, will FIFA 12.
Touting it as the biggest and most complete handheld gaming experience and from what they revealed, it seems that there might not be any exaggeration on that front.
Matt Prior, from EA, began by explaining that all the modes which are found in the console version of FIFA 12 would be making their way into the portable version, which included Career mode and Tournament mode as well.
He went on to comment on how the PlayStation Vita would give gamers a unique gaming experience and how the developers at Electronic Arts had worked to incorporate some of the touchscreen capabilities of the portable gaming device into the game.
Mr. Prior basically stated that they wanted to make the game “unique for the (PlayStation) Vita platform”.
The first feature he mentioned was the touchscreen shooting capability. Basically the rear touchpad had been utilized to represent the goal’s dimensions. Gamers simply have to touch the area or corner they wanted to shoot and the game would utilize that
command for aiming the shot.
The EA representative explained that this would make shooting more precise and more satisfying than before and to be fair we believe it could very well give it an edge over it console version.
The front touchscreen will also serve a purpose as gamers can now pass the ball more precisely; a simple tap on the screen would result in a ground pass in the exact direction the screen was touched whereas if players tap and hold their finger down on the
screen, it would trigger a lobbed pass.
The touchscreen mechanic was also implemented in set pieces, where players could define the trajectory (curve and dip) of the ball with various gestures instead of holding down buttons.
There was more to come though, as Mr. Prior elaborate on the various modes available in the Vita version of the game. Apart from the aforementioned Career and Tournament modes, A be a pro and an online mode would also be included.
Another unique feature of the Vita is its cross platform gaming capability and gamers who own PlayStation 3 copies of the game could transfer their Career mode progress on to the Vita and continue playing on the handheld gaming device.
However, the developer also conceded that because it was the first FIFA title on the Vita, it would form the basis of the series and gamers could expect to see plenty more in the next iteration of the game.
