Sony are hoping to create extra demand for the release of the PlayStation Vita by announcing a bundle that comes with a free memory card.
Sony are keen not to have a repeat of the slow launch period sales of their next generation handheld gaming device, the PlayStation Vita, in other regions.
The Vita has already been on sale in Japan for a few weeks and after a promising first week of sales the console’s weekly sales figures have plummeted to alarming levels. In fact, the console was unable to finish top of the charts and has been steadily slipping
down in the charts.
The PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable and the Nintendo Wii have all finished above the Vita in recent weeks and although Sony have issued a statement that they are not too concerned about the situation and have not pushed the panic button.
While announcing a new bundle for the US and other regions may sound like a bit of panic, it is far from the case as such bundles are common when it comes to the release of new technology, especially in the video game industry. At the same time however,
the offer does consumers a lot in terms of value for money.
Getting into the details now and the bundle will include the 3G model of the PlayStation Vita, which is the higher end model of the console as opposed to the standard Wi-Fi only model.
Gamers will also be pleased to know that the issue of the expensive memory card seems to be taken care of by the special bundle as it comes with an 8GB memory, which will be handy for users as Little Deviants will also be a part of the package.
Gamers will have to download the game from the PlayStation Network though, which should not be too much of a problem seeing how signing up for Sony’s online service costs nothing at all.
That is apparently not all, as those who do manage to get their hands on the Vita bundle will also receive 250GB DataConnect Session Pass from AT&T.
What is the price for all this gear one may ask, well for the United States the limited edition is set to retail for around $300, which is not too bad if one looks at what is on offer, especially with the memory card and game thrown in.
One complaint that consumers may still have is the fact that none of the bigger games such as Uncharted: Golden Abyss was not offered, but then again one cannot have everything and a game such as that would be sure to raise the price.
We will have more news on the European equivalent of the bundle as when it is announced.
