Sony’s next generation portable gaming console manages to pull in lines larger than those that turned up for the Nintendo 3DS and Microsoft Kinect on releases.
The PlayStation Vita has come to the United Kingdom and gamers have flocked in considerable numbers to both try the next generation console out for themselves and more importantly to get themselves one of the powerful little beasts as well.
Sony chose GAME Oxford Street to hold its consumer-focussed event as the focal point of the Vita’s release in the country.
Michael Denny, the Senior Vice President of Sony Worldwide Studios Europe, was present at the launch and gave the Vita his full backing.
“We have a truly next-generation piece of hardware and a great software line-up.” He continued, “There’s no question that gamers have been waiting for something new, something that is truly next-gen, so certainly we expect to start with people who care about
their games to want a PlayStation Vita.”
In fact, one can rest assured that all those who turned up for the launch night event were the core demographic of gamers who take their lifestyle seriously.
Mr. Denny went on to explain how the Vita was a unique piece of technology in the market and that none of its competitors had the same capabilities as the device.
“You look at the specs of the hardware in terms of portable device...there’s nothing out there like it – there’s nothing that competes with it.” He continued, “It really is a great device, but when you marry with that the great software – 50 titles announced
so far – I think it really will appeal to core gamers.”
The gaming side of the console is there with titles like Uncharted: Golden Abyss praised by critics and other hard-hitting titles in the pipeline as well, such as Resistance: Burning Skies and Unit 13, yet there is more to the Vita as well.
With a number of applications that cater towards increased social connectivity, such as Twitter and NEAR, the console will appeal to a “wider audience”.
Yet, one will have to wait and see if interest in the Vita carries on after its release as well.
