The Japanese hardware sales chart show a slow week for console sales as the market leader, the Nintendo 3DS, sees it sales fall by nearly 50-percent while the Vita’s sees its worst week of sales yet.
It seems that the previous week had plenty to keep Japanese gamers busy as well as potential console purchasers away from spending their money on anything related to video games as all around the hardware sales chart there were drops in figures.
The Nintendo 3DS, which has held the top spot in the charts since the end of the previous year, maintains its dominating position at number one. However, the console’s weekly sales figure has dropped from 91,868 units sold to 46,425 units sold in the previous
week.
If the 3DS saw such a huge drop in sales then that could only mean that the other consoles would struggle as well. And struggle they did as the PlayStation 3 also saw its sales nearly half as well, dropping from 23,478 units sold to 12,996 units sold.
The PlayStation Portable saw a similar trend in its sales as its latest recorded figure read 12,247 units sold as compared to 20,033 units sold.
However, it was a woeful week for the PlayStation Vita with its figures falling to an all time low of 6340 units sold. That following a week when the console’s sales figure had reached the five figure mark for the first time in months.
It seems that a lack of software is behind the fall in sales as not a single PlayStation Vita title was in the top 10 sales charts in the region. This is an issue that Sony have been trying to address since the launch of the console yet have not been able
to as yet.
The Nintendo Wii is also saw a huge drop in sales as it recorded 6,073 units sold as compared to the 15,789 units sold it did last week and had it sold just a few more units, the console would have found itself above the PlayStation Vita and further add
to the portable console’s sales woes.
