The hardware sales charts in Japan have shown a jump in sales in the PlayStation Vita as Ciel Nosurge: Ushinawareta Hoshi e Sasagu Uta breaks into the top 10 in the software sales charts.
Sony finally has something to cheer about as the sales for their second generation portable console, the PlayStation Vita, saw a significant increase in sales in the past week, with the number of Vitas sold increasing from 8,206 the week before to 12,299
units this week.
It is the first time since the console’s release that the sales figures have gone anywhere other than downward with the Vita having recorded its lowest sales figures in the previous week.
The consoles sales can be attributed to perhaps one of the longest names of any video anyone has probably ever come across. The game ‘Ciel Nosurge: Ushinawareta Hoshi e Sasagu Uta’ pits players in a life-simulator where gamers, “are tasked with taking care
of a girl called Ion, who lives inside their PS Vitas. At the same time, the title implements a cloud-share system, where data from all players affects the narrative progression of the game.”
It may not help remove the ‘forever alone’ stereotype that has been slapped on to gamers but Sony will not be complaining for the time being.
The game’s sales coinciding with an increase in PlayStation Vita sales goes to show that there is a desperate need for content on the PlayStation Vita as the console is starved of new, triple-A titles.
Although Ciel Nosurge: Ushinawareta Hoshi e Sasagu Uta will most likely not be shipping over to the West, gamers in regions other than Japan do have a number of titles to look forward to with Mortal Kombat and Resistance: Burning Skies set to release on
the Vita soon.
Whether or not those titles will generate enough sales for the Vita remains to be seen, but one can sense that gamers are waiting for a game along the lines of Metal Gear Solid or God of War.
That being said, Sony can breathe a little easier as their console sales have bucked their earlier downward trend in favour of a more positive one.
