Sony has announced three new and more importantly free applications for their portable gaming console which includes Paint Park, Treasure Park and Wake-Up Club.
When Sony officially unveiled the PlayStation Vita everyone was excited by the impressive looking piece of technology and that resulted in people having high expectations of the consumer electronic giant’s second generation portable gaming console.
However, sales of the console never lived up to expectations, though if you ask Sony they’ll tell you otherwise, and many analysts have cited two reasons; the first being the price and the second being the lack of content on the console.
Sony has confirmed that they do not have a price cut planned for the foreseeable future and as for content, well Mortal Kombat and Resistance: Burning Skies are on their way with both titles attempting to build hype with a number of trailers.
However, the Vita is more than just a gaming console and Sony tried to make that clear with their E3 Press Conference last year. A number of applications and features already help the Vita be more social than its predecessor yet one still gets the feeling
it’s not quite enough.
Three new apps have been released in order to address that and Jamil Miles, the Senior Manager of Brand Marketing for Handheld Consoles, both announced and described each app on the official PlayStation Blog.
“Paint Park turns PS Vita’s impressive 5”OLED touchscreen into a sketch pad where users can make and share drawings with friends. Players can doodle, sketch and scribble quickly and easily with the virtual markers and onscreen colour palette.”
The game also has a multiplayer feature in which five friends can see who has the better drawing skills and allow makes use of the Vita’s camera as well.
Next up was the Treasure Park and Wake-Up Club. “Treasure Park is a puzzle-based app that enables you to connect with friends and other PS Vita owners.” It apparently allows users to create their own puzzles and set booby traps as well. It sounds like an
interesting concept.
Lastly is Wake-Up Club which “expands on the PS Vita Alarm Clock by allowing you to sync up with other PS Vita owners who set their alarm for the same time.” So in essence Sony may just created the world’s first multiplayer alarm clock.
