PlayStation to get a price drop, Europe to get PlayStation Vita in 2012

As with all types of hardware, there comes a point where the price of the technology falls. The PlayStation 3 console is set to be another testament to that, as rumours are rife that Sony’s powerhouse of a gaming console is set to shed a few dollars, or
pounds, off its asking price.
According to reports, the price drop is expected to be announced at GamesCom in two months time, in August. Sony will officially announce a £199.99 price point, though according to some reports, retailers will be willing to drop the price by a further 20
Pounds.
According to Nick Parker, the move seems to be a sensible marketing decision, with the increase in popularity of the Kinect among gamers.
"£199.99 makes sense as it keeps Sony's options open for another drop, but they could be more aggressive. Microsoft wants to be No.1 but I expect it is adopting a 'wait and see' approach with possible new value-added deals on Kinect," said Parker.
While speculation is rife that this may be the first of many price cuts, Sony themselves have not responded to the rumours, which means that for the time being, that is all that they are, however, one can expect confirmation of the news at GamesCom, if there
is any truth to it.
While that part of the world, that does not yet have a PlayStation 3 in their homes, waits for the confirmation, everyone else - and indeed a large percentage of those mentioned earlier - will be looking forward with excitement for the official release date
for Sony’s next generation portable gaming device, the PlayStation Vita.
However, there is, at least for people living in the United Kingdom, some bad news. While the PSVita is most likely to hit shelves in the United States around the Christmas period, the United Kingdom might have to wait as late as February.
The source which shared this information had plenty to say and analysed the situation for the general gaming public, "Sony knows it's effectively gifting the festive handheld market to 3DS - but is still really confident of a success. The overall strategy
is that they want the hardcore to buy first and then spread the word. It's a blow for us, but they think they can still do that in the UK without the Christmas sales boost."
However, Sony did respond to the rumours with Sony Computer Entertainment UK making it clear that a release date for the product had not been announced for the region as yet. It seems that Sony seem to be playing this one close to the chest, though it may
also have to do with the search for a network provider in the region.
