Playa Del Carmen/ Yucatan Penninsula?

my friend is eighteen and i am 17 and we are trying to find a place to stay. So my question is... do you have to have a chaperon (like you do in Cancun) of someone over 21/25? or do most hotels in Playa del Carmen not care?
