Playbooks on iPads: Miami Dolphins warn players avoid unauthorised use of devices – NFL News
The Miami Dolphins have issued a stark warning to their players to avoid accessing unauthorised websites on their iPads or else face a fine of $10,000.
A change in the policy of the professional league regulator, National Football League (NFL), has allowed the players to use their iPads in the locker room right up to kickoff time of a game.
It has helped many teams to embrace the technology to facilitate their players’ access valuable information related to playbooks rules and videos of their and opponent’s plays.
Dolphins are the latest team to have made available their playbooks on the iPads and the players can access them anytime they want. It has already been done by some other teams.
Some of the players have welcomed the move, saying it will help them learn the rules or get updates on the team-related developments.
Wide receiver, Davone Bess, said:
"It's convenient. Every day we were getting stacks and stacks of papers with the installs. Now they can just download them on the iPads and it's there — Bam!"
To avoid misuse of the technology, the management has restricted access of information to certain sites and disallowed browsing of Youtube, Twitter and other unauthorised websites.
It is now up to the choice of players to either avoid using those sites or else face risk of the hefty $10,000 fine.
Interestingly, banning Twitter has surprised many. The social networking site has become a source of breaking news related to the American football and other sports. Both, the players and managers use it to keep the community abreast with
the latest developments on and off the field.
One such example is of Indianapolis Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, who is a frequent user of Twitter. He has often broken and denied news related to his team or to the game of the American football overall.
Meanwhile, the devices have added security features and in case they are stolen or have some other problems, the content can be made unavailable on them.
Any information around the player, team or game is not going to be available on the devices if they land in wrong hands.
