Question:

Playdate/diaper dilemma? Please read!?

A good friend of mine lets her child walk around my house briefly without her diaper on. She's two and not potty trained. It will be after swimming or if she runs away during a diaper change. But my friend seems to think it's perfectly normal. She lets her do it at her house I've noticed. Well it's not okay at my house but I've never had the nerve to say anything. I'm so wimpy sometimes I'll admit. It's just that I really like this girl and I don't want to tick her off. People can be so sensitive, especially when it comes to their kids. What should I say?

  1. People can be so sensitive when it comes to new carpet! Seriously, if she is having her diaper changed, didn't she already go pee?

  2. My twins do that at home; we are trying to potty train, but never at anyone elses house.  And the only other kids that are allowed to do it at my house are my two, two year old neices.  We try the daycare approach when they are together and sit them all down together.  Lots of fun with four two-year olds!   So next time just ask her if she's potty training her daughter.  Maybe she'll think twice about the diaper.

It's your house, your rules.  Just tell her lots of kids have accidents at that age and you would prefer a diaper.  I don't like children going to the bathroom on my floor either.  But it's been the potty trained kids ages 4 - 5 with accidents that really bother me.  One time the mother wasn't sure where the daughter had gone to the bathroom in my house, she just kept playing and running around until her mom noticed she was wet.  The five year old peed on my couch.

But once she starts potty training...good luck!

  3. just start doing it your self she will get the hint like when she lets her go say come here honey i don't want you to pee on my new carpet and finish the diaper change your friend will notice and stop letting her run around with out one on.

  4. " I am sorry, we just go new carpeting and I am a little overprotective of it.  Would you mind not letting her run around without a diaper while she is inside?  I am sure once we have our first kool-aide stain, I won't be so sensitive about the carpet, but until then keeping her diaper on would calm my fear of stains!"   If you keep it light hearted, she won't take offense and will probably feel bad for not being thoughtful of your home.

  5. What about saying how cute it is first, and then saying you really don't want her to have an accident in your house.

OR (better yet)...talk to the kid.  Even though she is only 2, if he mom is within an earshot, it may work.  Say things like, "Oh!  You're naked!  I hope you don't go potty on my rug!" Or, "Oh my!  Where are your pants?!? Go put them on!"  Say the things in a cute way, and hopefully mom will get the hint without getting offended.

  6. you should say i dont want your daughter to be sick so please pu a diaper on her becasue i really care about her and i want her to be healthy! but in a nice way

  7. So, just catch her little girl up in your arms, say "Uh oh! No peeing on my new carpet! Let's find a diaper, quick!" and chase down the diaper with a smile. Your friend will get the idea, and her little girl will think you are playing.

  8. Just let her know it isn't ok at your house.  Really in my family that was always acceptable for a 2 year old we never thought anything of it but I do realize some people just find nudity a no-no like that so just let her know that it bothers you.

  9. I really think you should just calm down.  If you really want to be friends with these people, then you need to take it in perspective.  Pretty soon both your kids will be potty training!  Do you want your friend not to come over while her daughter is in underwear?  What are you going to do while toilet training your child, lay down news print? Pull-ups usually delay toilet training more than help it, so alot of people go strait to underwear (I know I did).  So if you really want to keep play-date friends around, you have to just sorta chill out about normal parenting mishaps.

Besides, pee doesn't really stain as long as you clean it up right away.

  10. she is 2 so she shouldn't have an accident on your carpet. it is usually when they are young babies and in the middle of a diaper change they start peeing everywhere. relax if a 2 yr old starts peeing on your carpet then the child is doing it on purpose.
