Player Profile - Thomas Mueller
Thomas Mueller is one of those players who have made a huge impact in football in the least amount of time. He started his career from Bayern Munich’s reserves and was then able to win a league and a cup double. All this was done by Thomas Mueller during
the 2009 and 2010 season. Mueller, during the season, was able to score 19 goals in 52 games that he featured in, which itself is a big achievement.
The 21-year-old was in the first team of Bayern Munich during the 2008 and 2009 season but he was not able to make his mark in the German Bundesliga until the arrival of Louis Van Gaal who actually polished the youngster and made him what he is today.
The Dutch coach, Van Gaal is famous for playing youth team players and he proved this reputation right when Mueller and Badstuber were promoted to full-time first team players during the last summer. These players made great impact on the team and were able
to score goals for the German club.
Mueller was a substitute for the German side, Bayern Munich, but he soon powered his way to the top and was able to score goals against Dortmund in a match that was played in September. As he was making his way to the top, he was awarded player of the Month
in September as Bayern Munich gained momentum with his help. The only match that he missed during the season was against Bordeaux, and it was in the Europa Champions League. The reason why he could not feature in the match was because of the suspension that
he received in the last match.
Even though he is very experienced at such a young age, he still managed to miss a few goals against Inter Milan as Bayern Munich went head-to-head with them during the final match of the Champions League. He missed a few chances that could help them win
the match but his young mind probably came under too much pressure and he could not score a goal.
At Bayern Munich’s home-ground, Mueller was just “killing”. He helped his team win the 22nd German title as Mueller netted many goals against Bremen and Schalke, and Munich went to the top of the table. Just because he played so well throughout his
time at the German club, he was called up by the national team in November. He was also called up in March to play a friendly match against Argentina. That particular day Argentina won the match but no one knew what the German youngsters were actually capable
of. With amazing abilities, Mueller became a regular in the German squad and started to play as a right midfielder for the team.
During the FIFA World Cup 2010, Mueller helped his team beat Australia and England as he scored 2 goals in both these games. Germany brought in too many young players but they were still able to fight their way through to the top of the table and then to
the pre quarter finals and then to the quarter finals where they defeated the Argentineans to become a part of the last 4 of the FIFA World Cup 2010.
The third-place match saw Mueller play his heart off. He was all over the place as he scored a goal and was on level terms with Wesley Sneijder of Netherlands and David Villa of Spain, who were both a part of the Final match in South Africa. Thomas Mueller
was able to win the Best Young Player award along with the Golden Boot award as he also had three assists during the tournament.
At the moment, Mueller still has a long way to go as he is only 21 years old. His peak time is already here and no one knows what he will do when he is as old as 23 or 24, when the players are actually at their peak. There is going to be more of Mueller
next season and he is definitely going to score more goals as the golden boot award has definitely given the German player some motivation.
