Player Ratings: Tottenham v Liverpool – Part 1
A cracking game at White Hart Lane saw Tottenham come from a goal down to grab all three points courtesy of a stoppage time winner by Aaron Lennon. Before that Martin Skrtel had scored at both ends to make it 1-1. Bettor.com will rate each player out of
10 from last night’s game.
TOTTENHAM
Hureleo Gomes: 6.5
He never looks assured when kicking; however, he made a couple of brilliant saves to keep Liverpool at bay, including a fizzing shot from Maxi Rodriguez.
Alan Hutton: 6.0
Never really got going, Hutton looked dodgy in defence and his crossing failed to threaten Liverpool’s back four. However, his constant running gave Spurs another dimension in their attack. His work was made easy by Konchesky having a torrid time in trying
to keep Lennon quite.
William Gallas: 7.5
The stand in skipper kept Torres quite for most parts of the game and gave a really good account of himself. He put in a great shift last night and the former Arsenal man is getting better with each passing game.
Younus Kaboul: 7.0
The towering defender did a reasonably good job until an injury forced him to depart 35 minutes before the end of the match. He seems to be developing a strong partnership with Gallas. However, we hope that he is not seriously injured.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto: 6.5
Nothing spectacular but he did the job for the team running up and down the pitch all night and never got beaten by either Kuyt or Johnson. He worked well in tandem with Bale.
Aaron Lennon: 7.0
He ran past Konchesky all day long and then left him for dead again before slotting the ball into the back of the net for a 92nd minute winner. This was his first goal in 12 months time and he looked like the Lennon of last season.
Wilson Palacios: 5.5
The weakest link in the Spurs line up, Palacios looked out of place and the pace of the game seemed too much for him. His passing was erratic and he failed to stamp his authority as Modric and Meireles dominated midfield for their teams.
Luka Modric: 8.5
By far the best player on the pitch, The Croatian was all over the pitch and looked dangerous every time he got on the ball. His passing and movement were crisp and forced Skrtel into an own goal after he ran past three Liverpool players.
Gareth Bale: 7.5
Another cracking display from the Welshman as he gave Liverpool’s defence all sorts of problems by his direct running. Liverpool players had to foul him to stop him. He certainly looks destined for bigger things.
Rafael Van der Vaart: N/A
The Dutchman wasn’t fully fit and the gamble to start him back fired. He had to leave the pitch after only 10 minutes.
Peter Crouch: 6.5
Peter Crouch put in a decent performance against his former team and his height was a constant cause of concern for Liverpool’s defence. He was preferred to Pavlyuchenko and he proved that the decision to start with him was a correct one.
Substitutes:
Sebastian Bassong: 7.0
Came on for injured Kaboul and his two last ditch tackles on Torres were enough to earn him 7.0 rating. He is another example of the depth in Spurs squad. With King, Dawson and Woodgate out injured, Bassong did the job for his team.
Jermaine Defoe: 5.5
Missed the penalty and lacked his usual sharpness, which was expected after such a long injury lay off. He was given another chance to score the goal, when he only managed to hit Carragher in an open goal.
Sandro: N/A
Came on in added time and had little chance to make an impact.
