Player Ratings: Tottenham v Liverpool – Part 2
We completed the ratings for Spurs players in part 1. In Part 2 we look at how Liverpool players fared in their 2-1 defeat away at White Hart Lane.
Pepe Reina: 6.0
Not one of his best nights and spilled a couple of crosses which he would have dealt with under normal circumstances. He couldn’t do much to prevent the two goals. He will now be looking at the next weekends match to keep his 100th clean sheet for Liverpool.
Glen Johnson: 6.0
He was given the license to bomb forward and provided support to the front men but as was expected he got skinned by Bale on a number of occasions. Nevertheless he put in a decent shift against the most in form left sided player in the league.
Jamie Carragher: 7.5
The Liverpool skipper was at his usual best and looked assured for most parts of the game. However, at 32, he lacked the legs to catch up with Modric when he set up the first goal. He did however make a stunning block to deny Defoe a goal on his return.
He left the pitch with a dislocated shoulder and will join Steven Gerrard on the treatment table to add to increasing Liverpool woes.
Paul Konchesky: 4.0
Easily the worst player on the pitch; The former Fulham man is yet to win over fans and showed last night that he should be sacrificed for Fabio Aurelio. Lennon ran him ragged and crossed the ball at will. He made far too many unforced errors and fell asleep
for Lennon’s 92nd minute winner.
Dirk Kuyt: 6.0
Nothing spectacular as usual but the Dutchman failed to provide his team with the all important goal which he has so often done in the absence of Gerrard and when Torres isn’t firing on all cylinders. Worked hard as usual for his team.
Lucas Leiva: 7.0
The Brazilian is getting better and produced an assured display in the centre of the park. He bossed the midfield along with Raul Meireles and worked tirelessly for the entire 90 minutes.
Raul Meireles: 8.0
Liverpool’s best player on the night, Raul Meireles is showing his true potential in the middle of the park in the absence of Steven Gerrard. He dictated the midfield and forced Gomes into a fine save from 30 yards. His left foot sizzler was only inches
wide in the 2nd half and he also showed his game awareness with a goal line clearance of Gareth Bale’s volley.
Maxi Rodriguez: 6.5
Was a menace in the first half but faded away in the second. Looked sharp when he cut inside from the left and he also forced a brilliant save from Gomes. Should have done better when he was slid in beautifully by Torres. The Argentine is showing signs of
improvement.
David Ngog: 6.0
The Frenchman did a reasonably sound job for his team. His presence gave Torres more freedom and he used his height to good effect. His movement was good and missed a decent headed chance. He should have learned from the mistake Fabregas made last week,
when he handled the ball from a Bale free kick.
Fernando Torres: 6.5
His gliding pass for Maxi was the highlight of the weekend and he linked up well with his former Atletico Madrid team mate. His movement was terrific but failed to match that with his finishing. He was sent clear through on goal twice and he delayed on both
occasions and Bassong made recovery on both occasions to stop him from getting a shot away.
Substitutes:
Fabio Aurelio: 6.0
Replaced the injured Ngog but failed to make any serious impact on the match. However, he is still getting back from a long injury lay off.
Sotorios Kyrgiakos: N/A
He was brought on late for the injured Carragher.
