Player profile: Frank Lampard
Frank James Lampard initiated his career at West Ham United which also happened to be his father’s club. He had protected a place in the first team by the 1997–98 season, and the subsequent year aided the team draw to a close 5th in the
Premier League, their highest ever Premier League placing. In 2001, he moved to rival London club Chelsea for £11 million.
Lampard is an English footballer who was born on 20th June 1978. Playing in the midfield for Chelsea and at international level for the England national team he continues to prove the legend he is. Also holding the position
of vice-captain for both his club and national side the importance of the player in footballing world is emphasized.
The Blue star mostly plays as a box-to-box midfielder but also enjoying short spotlights in advanced attacking midfield. There is no doubt as to the reasons for him being considered one of the best footballers in the world.
Starting his entrance onwards he was pervasive in the Chelsea first team, creating a record of 164 consecutive Premier League appearances. He recognized himself as a creative scorer at the West London club and was an integral part of the
sides which won back-to-back Premier League titles in 2004–05 and 2005–06 and a domestic cup double in 2007.
Signing a new contract in 2008, fetching the highest paid Premier League footballer title at that time, he scored in his first Champions League Final that same year. He won the FA Cup for the second time in 2009, scoring the winning goal
in the final. On 23rd December 2009, he was named the Premier League's Player of the decade by official statistics. In the 2009-10 season; Lampard won the Premier League title and FA Cup (domestic cup double) in addition he had his most fruitful
season with Chelsea scoring 22 league goals and 17 league assists.
Internationally, Lampard has capped 82 times from England after making his debut in October 1999. He has also scored 20 goals for his country, leave alone the times that he has been the crucial pivot in the midfield.
He was designated England player of the year for two consecutive years in 2004 and 2005. He played in Euro 2004, where he was named in the team of the tournament after scoring three goals in four games. He was the top scorer for England
in their victorious 2006 World Cup campaign with five goals. In the 2010 World Cup qualifiers he scored four goals, helping England to be eligible for the tournament suitable in South Africa.
Lampard has won the Chelsea Player of the Year award three times and is Chelsea's 3rd all-time highest goal scorer with 158 goals in all competitions, including over 100 league goals. This is the most number of goals scored in the club’s
history by a midfielder. As a matter of Lampard is the highest goal scoring midfielder in Premier League history with 129 league goals, and he's 2nd in the Premier League's all-time assists table with 156 assists. Also Lampard has completed over 1400 successful
passes and has 10 or more assists every season.
Chelsea have been blessed with his services as without him they would certainly be seeing very different times. The services of Lampard for the last couple of weeks have been unavailable because the player going in to get a hernia surgery.
Despite the fact that the team has been doing well, it is very evident that the player’s absence is strongly felt on and off the pitch.
Lampard was due to make his return in the Arsenal match as early as two weeks ago when the team took on Liverpool, however due to some minor setbacks he is now out for another 5 weeks. That being said it is certain that the player will
be back before the end of the year and when that does happen it is safe to say that Chelsea will start performing even better than they are at the moment.
