Players Association set to Put Forth new Labour Deal Proposal -NHL Lockout Update
The ball is now in the National Hockey League Players’ Association’s (NHLPA) court as the league requested a new proposal from their side for the upcoming meeting on Wednesday to continue discussion on a new labour deal to bring the lockout to an end.
All eyes are on the labour union and its members now as they are reportedly ready to put forth a new proposal when the time comes and according to them, it would be the final one in all terms and conditions.
"It's our position we've made a couple comprehensive proposals in a row," said NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly, according to CalgarySun.com. "We'd like to know where they are on all issues, and we asked them to put together a comprehensive proposal for
us to consider."
Monday was the last time both stakeholders met, in a meeting that lasted nearly two hours, but continued informal talks on Tuesday and will be getting back to the table on Wednesday. Players obviously want to get back to playing and have their contracts
honoured in full, but some experts are regarding the process as not as simple as it sounds. There are a lot of technicalities involved, like setting the plan out for what the remaining regular season should look like along with who plays where and when.
The Players’ Association, in the minds of many of its members, has already compromised on too many issues and is now not in the mood to do any more sacrificing. Some insiders have termed their stance going in on Wednesday to be a strict and confident one,
with no leverage for the league and team owners in mind. Some crucial issues still need to be negotiated on, like players’ share in team revenue along with contracts and there lengths.
Hopefully, analysts are seeing a 50 to 60 game regular season on the play cards if a deal gets done sooner than later since the Winter Classic has already been cancelled along with a major chunk of the scheduled hockey year.
It will be interesting to see how the situation plays out in the upcoming days.
