Players Tour Championship Grand Finals 2011: Day 1 results
Round 1 of the Players Tour Championship Grand Finals 2011 held at Helix, Dublin on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 has almost been completed.
Eight best-of-seven matches were scheduled in the Round 1 out of which results for six have concluded on the first day.
Stephen Maguire withdrew from the tournament because of his third child’s birth and hence Stuart Bingham is the only lucky man who has enjoyed a walkover in the first round.
The quickest wrap up was seen between Mark Davis vs. Joe Jogia. The 38-year-old, Davis, completely whitewashed the 35-year-old, Jogia, by a frame score of 4-0. The highest match-break was of 50 from Davis but still Jogia was not able to respond to the tactical
play of his opponent.
The longest battle was seen between Anthony Hamilton vs. Tom Ford with a frame score of 4-2. The Robin Hood of Snooker, Hamilton, who is known for his strong break-building skills, stormed into a 3-0 lead by firing up a magnificent day-highest century break
of 133 in the first frame and a classy 92 in the third. Ford responded in the next two frames to trail by 3-2 but another decisive break of 54 from Hamilton finished the matters off.
The man from Chester, Ricky Walden, who bet his Chinese opponent by 4-1, took the first frame without doing anything outstanding before the fearless, Liang Wenbo, produced a carving break of 89 in the second to level the things by 1-1. However, he failed
to register himself in any other frame afterwards. Walden, who showed no reeling effects, won all three in a row to clinch the victory. He enjoyed breaks of 60, 52, and 33 in the meanwhile.
Hong Kong’s world number 16, Marco Fu, has also lost his battle against the Hitman, Michael Holt, by 4-1. The Hong Kong Fuey took the first frame before losing the next four straight to his opponent. Holt compiled some superb breaks of 66, 110 and 54 in
the second, third and fourth respectively before winning the scrappy fifth.
Finally, Matthew Stevens after beating the former world championship finalist, Gerard Greene, has also gone through to book his place inside the top 16 of the projected seedings.
The other two matches, Jamie Jones vs. Martin Gould and Andrew Higginson vs. Jack Lisowski, that were scheduled in the round one are going to be played in a short while.
