Day 2 of this week’s 2011 Players Tour Championship has been concluded. Overall, five best-of-seven matches were played on the day.
In the morning session last 24 matches were played.
The first match did not take that long as the 29-year-old Pinner potter Martin Gould completely whitewashed his opponent Jamie Jones by a frame score of 4-0, producing a magnificent century break of 106 in the third.
The rising star, Jack Lisowski, who was pretty confident and wanted to start off his first season well being in the top 16, has lost. Anthony Hamilton made an accomplishing performance to see off the teenager. He fired up a mind boggling match-highest century
break of 128 in the first frame before Lisowski responded in the second. However, the left-handed could not register him afterwards in any frame.
In the last 16, some interesting match-ups were seen.
Both Welshman Matthew Stevens and Mark J Williams have reached the quarter-finals.
The match of the day came up from the world number two, Mark J Williams. The man in form, Williams, hardly took 50 minutes to completely whitewash his opponent, Anthony Hamilton, ranked 41st.
He started off in style by firing up a classy century break of 111 in the first frame to take the first blood. Hamilton got his chances in the second and third but failed before the tournament favourite submitted a mind boggling tournament-highest break
of 143 in the fourth frame to book his place in the next round.
The other Welshman, Matthew Stevens, has also gone through to the next round after beating his compatriot, Dominic Dale. The Welsh Dragon already said he is looking for a revenge match as Dale twice had beaten him in the PTCs event.
The world number 16, Stevens, took a flying start by producing a superb 93 in the first frame before the spaceman, Dale, clawed back with breaks of 46 and 12. Stevens showcased his flawless safety skills in the next three and secured his place in the last.
Former world champion Shaun Murphy also registered a 4-2 win over Ricky Walden to move into the next round. The match played between both players was a bit scrappy and old fashioned but Murphy, who topped the inaugural PTC order of merit this season, has
come successfully gone through his first test.
He now awaits Mark Davis or Stephen Lee in the quarter-finals this Saturday.
