Players across the globe awaiting payments of 2010 Champions League T20
The Federation of International Cricketers' Associations (FICA) claimed on Sunday that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) owes a prize money of 6 million USD to cricketers across the globe for the
Champions League Twenty20 tournament that was held in South Africa in September last year.
“Given that the 2010 event concluded in September, we are increasingly frustrated and disappointed that the prize money still has not been paid by the organisers to teams and players,” said the FICA chief executive
Tim May.
India, Australia and South Africa are the trilateral shareholders of the lucrative tournament, which started back in 2009. BCCI owns 50 percent of the shares, while the rest of the 50 percent is shared between
Cricket Australia and Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in a ratio of 30 to 20.
Cricket Australia, the number two shareholder, made it clear that the leading shareholder, BCCI, was responsible for making payments to the players.
May said that numerous requests were made to the concerned boards for clarifications regarding the payment date for the prize money, but no satisfactory explanation has yet been provided by any of the three shareholders
for the annual tournament. All this irked the FICA chief executive.
“Players are like anyone else in the community,” said May. “They have financial commitments and families to provide for, and they expect to be paid in a timely manner.
"It's simply unacceptable that three of the most financially affluent cricket boards in the world can seemingly sit on their hands for four months with no apparent sense of obligation to pay this prize money in a timely manner.
"FICA (Federation of International Cricketers' Associations) and other player associations still await definitive confirmation as to when the prize money and participation fees will be paid.
"In the meantime, we will be assessing our various options regarding recovery of these outstanding amounts for the 2010 event should the monies not be received within the next couple of weeks," he added.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Victoria-c859 are also among the teams waiting for payments. Redbacks, the finalists of the 2010 Champions League Twenty20 are due to receive at least 1.3 million US dollars while Bushrangers are
entitled to two hundred thousand USD despite their elimination from the competition after the first round.
Cricket Australia claimed that the board had been in contact with the Australian Cricketers’ Association on the matter and have been updating ACA as well as state cricket associations.
“We have been across the details of the issue for some months and we have been keeping the Australian Cricketers' Association and the state cricket associations up to date,” said chief spokesman of Cricket Australia,
Peter Young. “We understand there was advice from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 last week that the payments should be made in the next couple of weeks,” he assured.
