Players aiming for their first Tour victory in 2011 – Part 1
As 2010 ends, the Professional Golfers Association continues to welcome players with winless backgrounds and greets 2011 with golfers contending for a top spot at the Tour leaderboard. Let’s take a look at some of the players who are all set to take 2011
by storm.
Ryo Ishikawa:
Hanikami Ōji is just 19 and already knows how to score a 58.
Ishikawa already has ten professional wins, which includes nine victories from the 2008 Japan Golf Tour which make him a plausible contender for the 2011 crown.
With a low score of 58 at The Crowns tournament, his contenders already know what a hurricane he can be. Ishikawa has the record of appearing at a 2009 international team event at the age of eighteen. His regular tournament wins prove to be a fresh wave
of competitiveness on the fields.
Michael Thompson:
Another young prodigy is American Michael Thompson.
The 25-year-old golfer graduated from Q-School and grabbed an impressive 16th place at the leaderboard. The golfer has two professional wins so far and is currently on the PGA Tour as well.
Although young, Thompson stood as a finalist at the 2007 US Amateur. He also won Hooter Tour Player of the Year 2010 and managed 5 top-ten finishes from 17 starts. Considering the 25-year-old’s recent record, it is easy to predict his future strategy would
be only winning.
Jarrod Lyle:
After grabbing a 5th place at the 2010 Tour Q-School, Lyle is ready to charge 2011 for a fresh victory at the Tour.
The 29-year-old golfer has been struggling a lot on the Tour as he failed to make it through from 9 out of 12 starts. Nevertheless, the Australian failed to accept defeat and made a strong comeback at the end of the year after the JBWere Masters.
The golfer stood fifth in his home ground and will be entering 2011 the fourth time without a Tour win.
Jamie Lovemark:
Jamie Lovemark bagged $450,000 in 2010 and plans to continue making money in 2011.
Lovemark topped the money list on the Nationwide Tour but is not on the Tour due to the early-year problems he faced in 2010.
The American golfer bagged The Western Amateur and the NCAA Championship from the year 2005 to 2007.
Rickie Fowler:
According to statistics, the 22-year-old golfer Rickie Fowler turned professional in 2009 and since then, has been able to grab 2 finishes out of 22 cuts in the top-25 line-up.
He has been awarded the 2010 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year and follows a unique swinging approach that displays his power on the field and presents his competitive abilities rather starkly.
He played in the 2007 and 2009 Walker Cup teams and appeared in the Ryder Cup for the Americans in 2010 as well.
Overall, the young prodigy has collected 2 runner-up positions and ten top-25 finishes. Out of 28 cuts, the Nevada resident made 20 cuts and is ready to pounce the next year Tour for a big win.
