Players and staff at Dundee will receive no wages
The players and staff at Dundee will receive no wages on Thursday as expected. The players and staff were informed of the situation and were told that they would receive their wages next week.
Dundee are currently in talks to avoid administration after they were ordered to pay a tax bill of £365,000 immediately.
It is likely that the clubs survival rests with benefactor Callum Melville who may underwrite some of the tax demand. Investor Melville handed in his resignation as chairman to Dundee earlier this month.
Melville has invested approximately £1.3 million in the club and had stated his intention to fund the club over the next three to five years, although he did not intend to put up anything near the amount of the £1.3 million he paid out when he first invested.
Former chairman Bob Brannan stood down from the club last season and Melville confirmed that he was still committed to financing the club.
However, earlier this month, Melville was suspended from his position at Cosalt after a review was carried out regarding work practices. Melville has not been charged with anything illegal.
Melville has suggested that he does not have the time to commit to the football club anymore. The board investigated this claim to see whether Melville will provide the money that he said he would invest over the next three to five years.
Last weekend Melville agreed to underwrite a six figure sum and to guarantee the club and pay back the money in instalments. Her Majesty's Revenue and Customers has yet to agree to this offer and may insist on an immediate payment.
A number of local businesses have pledged £75,000 towards the tax bill, but without the backing of Melville the club could face serious difficulties.
