Ahead of the limited-overs competition against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Indian skipper, expressed that his side is mentally and physically fresh for the forthcoming busy schedule and feels that the off-season has done wonders for the Men in Blue.
The first of the five-match One Day International (ODI) series will be played today at Hambantota. The tour also includes a T20 international, to be held at Pallekele on August 7.
In the on-going year, team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, providing Dhoni’s men a well deserved rest.
After a miserable year in Test cricket, the Indian boys were mentally drained out and the off-season must have helped them rejuvenate themselves.
On the eve of the first ODI, the Indian skipper revealed that his men are putting in additional efforts in training, showing intent to deliver the goods at the start of the new season. The wicketkeeper/batsman is delighted that he no longer has to motivate
the side to work harder on their fitness.
"Before the start of the series, the good thing is that everybody is looking fresh and the guys are putting in a lot of effort," the Indian captain expressed. "You see a lot more guys going to the gym. Even after the practice session gets over, even if we
have had some fitness session, the players are going for a round around the park."
Over the last five years, the Indian players have been playing more cricket than most other countries, Indian Premier League (IPL) being an integral part of BCCI’s schedule. The situation has forced some of the senior players to quit some tours in the past.
The Men in Blue however, have a huge pool of young players who are capable of performing well at the limited-overs portion of the sport, at least in the limited-overs formats.
"It is the first break we have literally got in the last six-seven years. Of course, in between, the players were missing series because of injuries or some of the senior players opted out of a few series," Dhoni adds.
