Players association slams board on Sarwan issue
The war of words between the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Players' Association and the West Indies Cricket Board just refuses to end. In a latest development, the WIPA has criticised the cricket board’s decision to not give a central contract to the West Indian senior cricketer, Ramnaresh Sarwan.
The players’ association has questioned the decision and asked for an explanation behind the non-offering of the contract. The WICB had earlier said it had removed the player from the contracts list because of his issues with fitness. However, the players association has said that the injuries had happened while Sarwan was playing for the West Indies, and hence, it made no sense for the player to be cut off.
The players’ association also added that Sarwan had taken initiative on his own to try and recover from the injuries that he had suffered.
The WIPA said that the former captain of the West Indian side had been told by the WICB about the fitness concerns late last year. The WIPA said that the WICB had claimed that this was based on a report that they had, but neither the player nor the WIPA is said to have seen the report. The WICB had also said that they were just cautioning the player. In reply, the WIPA had asked the board to inform them the particular instances, but the WICB is said to have not got back.
The players' association added that the two injury problems that Sarwan had were a back problem during the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748.
Rather surprisingly, Sarwan had recently said that he was expecting the sack from the WICB and that he will look to overcome his issues and get back to full fitness. Sarwan is currently the captain of the Guyana side which is playing in the Champions League T20. Guyana lost the first game of the tournament to Bangalore after being bowled out for 103.
