Players back at San Francisco 49ers’ headquarters for offseason workout programme – NFL News
San Francisco 49ers reached the National Football League (NFL) playoffs in the last season after a long period of time. The performance of the team under the first-year head coach, Jim Harbaugh, was splendid and received praised from all the corners.
49ers were unable to win the National Football Conference (NFC) championship to get a shot at the Super Bowl, but their morale was certainly high when the season ended for them.
Hoping to build on the last season’s performance, 49ers kicked off their offseason workout programme on Monday, April 16, 2012, and many players including some new faces reported at the team’s headquarters.
49ers have recently signed running back, Brandon Jacobs, and wide receiver, Mario Manningham; both were a part of New York Giants’ Super Bowl winning squad, which also defeated 49ers in the NFC championship game.
49ers’ linebacker, Patrick Willis, met his new teammates and looked forward to having a good time with both of them on the field. He commented:
“We added on some good players, some guys who are really going to help make a difference. And that’s what we need. We’re not a pride team; we’re about doing everything we need to do to get it done. It’s good to have these guys.”
In the last season, 49ers stunned everyone by winning 13 games in the regular season to top the NFC West division. They lost only three games and earned a home-field advantage in the playoffs.
The team lost in the championship game, but those who have joined 49ers recently believe that the team is capable of winning the Super Bowl.
Manningham said:
“This team has Super Bowl potential; I’m going to ride with them. This is my new team. I know they’re going to ride with me.”
Running back, Rock Cartwright, who will play his first season with the 49ers after agreeing to terms with the team last month, is also excited to work out with his new teammates. He said:
“Pretty much everybody was here outside working. It’s a great sign. I’m looking forward to continuing to grow with the guys and move in the right direction.”
With Super Bowl in sight, 49ers will certainly be a threat to other teams in the next season. However, it will be a new beginning for everyone and the possibility around happening something unusual cannot be overruled.
