Players focussed on cricket: Graeme Smith
South African captain Graeme Smith has claimed that the players will stay away from the controversy surrounding the President of Cricket South Africa Mtutuzeli Nyoka and focus on World Cup preparations.
Nyoka claimed that the Chief Executive Officer of CSA, Gerald Majola was lying to him about the Indian Premier League bonuses and said that someone should investigate financials of CSA to confirm the corruption allegations.
However, the Proteas captain stated that his team has been successful in staying away from any controversy and will focus on the ongoing series against India and the upcoming ICC World Cup 2011.
Smith stated, “The players themselves have enough to worry about with the pressures and responsibility of going to a World Cup and that’s our primary focus at the moment. We’re hoping now that the World Cup squad is out, the tension has lifted off the players
and they can play their own game (today). They can play with a bit more freedom.”
He further added that it was not their job to comment or handle the Board matters. He said, “We’ve got to trust that there are people above us who can handle that and do their jobs properly. Like they trust us to play cricket and to be successful, we’ve
got to trust them.”
The South African team is already under pressure as they are 1-2 down in the ongoing five-match series against India. Both the teams will go head-to head in the fourth match of the series on Friday at Port Elizabeth and the Indians will be looking to seal
the series with a win.
India lost the opening match of the series but bounced back in the second and third match to take the lead in the series. Although the visitors are facing injury problems, they have still managed to perform well in challenging conditions.

do not want to risk him ahead of the World Cup.
