Players gear up for 2013 season with renewed vigour
The 2012 LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour has come to an end, with its last event having been held at The TwinEagles Club, Florida—but the intensity and hype of the competition can still be felt as players gear up for the next season.
The CME Group Titleholders 2012 ended last week with a flurry of excitement, with some players having made their mark, and some still struggling to prove their worth on the course.
As the Tour’s battle typically culminates at CME Group Titleholders, it has made this tournament the premier competition in women’s golf, especially for the LPGA and its officials.
Player’s talent was amply exhibited, with South Korean Na Yeon Choi impressing the golfing world once again. Choi maintained Asian dominance by grabbing the prestigious title on American soil, which some observers say, has put South Koreans back in the limelight.
While a few days back, golf fans were expecting American other non-Asian contenders to cap off the season on a promising note, as stars like Stacy Lewis and Norwegian Suzann Pettersen have shown in the recent past that they still pose a threat to Asian rule in women’s golf.
Winning is not the only thing that has put Choi back in the spotlight, she has also improved her world ranking. She surged to the second position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings following the CME Group Titleholders 2012—something that is sure to change the scenario in the 2013 season.
Choi shared her thoughts during the season-ending tournament, saying she is pretty happy that she has been able to finish it off in an impressive style.
Choi has been playing professional golf since 2004, but she only rose to fame following her first major victory at the US Women’s Open in July 2012.
The South Korean star said that she gained plenty of confidence after her US Open victory, as before that, her efforts could not garner much.
“I mean, I didn't win after the U.S. Open, but still I feel very honored to win a major tournament this year, and also a lot of people still saying congratulations on the U.S. Open,” Choi said at the end of the third round of CME Group Titleholders.
