Players go shark diving in South Africa
Four players enjoyed a bit of adventure, diving before the start of South African Women’s Open. The tournament will run from July 13 to 15.
The players have all come to South Africa, to experience the local scenery and prepare for the harsh climate they will face throughout the event. The event will be played in Selborne Park Golf Club, located in KwaZulu-Natal.
Lindsey Wright, the Australian star, Felicity Johnson from England and the pair of Indian players, Smriti Mehra and Sharmila Nicollet went shark diving off the coast at Rocky Bay, Pennington.
The sport is very popular here in South Africa and attracts numerous adventure tourists every year.
The divers go down in custom built cages and observe the fearsome sharks from a close distance. The cages provide complete protection from the predators.
The players enjoyed their time underwater and managed to see the sharks that they had come for. The sharks did not disappoint the players either. A couple of humpback sharks swam very close to their cage, while the well known blacktip sharks also came very
close and circled the cage.
The players were ecstatic about their close encounter with the sharks. Lindsey Wright said that it was one of the best experiences of her life. Felicity Johnson added that this was one of the reasons why she really like coming to South Africa.
Perhaps the one who enjoyed the most was the Indian Smriti Mehra. Her comment summed up the experience of all the players who went down with her. She said, “It was absolutely amazing; a once in a life time opportunity”.
This is the right type of adrenaline kick that the players require to compete in one of the most anticipated events of the LET calendar. Commentators say that it is one of the toughest competitions on the LET calendar.
The return of the South African Women’s Open has been welcomed with much enthusiasm by players and fans alike.
The field is set for great golf as top players from across the world step on the golf green for the trophy and the prize money.
