Players have been paid in advance to play in the World Series Hockey – Hockey Update
It has been reliably learnt that all of the Indian hockey players have been given an advance payment to play in the World Series Hockey (WSH), which is scheduled to start on December 17. This information was given by the Chief Operation Officer of Nimbus,
Yannick Colaco.
Earlier there were a lot of controversies regarding some of the current Indian national players who were stopped from playing in the national side due to their participation in the WSH but later the ban was lifted. Those include Sandeep Singh, Sardar Singh
and Adrian D’Souza.
“Out of the 200 players, we have 146 Indian players. We can confirm that all players including the top 50 Indian players who have played for India in the last three-four years have been paid an advance amount which confirms their participation,” Yannick
Colaco stated about the advance payment.
Talking about the format Colaco stated that the players will be owned by the eight franchises through draft system like the same what is adopted in the NBA while each of the eight franchises can have a maximum of 25 players with individually fixed price for
each of them.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced a trial process to select the junior and senior national hockey squads for their upcoming respective tournaments. The trial for the senior national hockey team will be conducted
at Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium in Islamabad on October 10 after which the senior athletes will travel to Australia to feature in a three-nation nine-a-side hockey tournament along with an International Super Series besides a test match series against the hosts
Kookaburras. Their Australian tour will last from October 20 to November 4.
“All the probables, currently undergoing training at a camp, will participate in the trials to be watched by the selection committee headed by Hanif Khan with Arshad Chaudhary and Khalid Bashir as members,” a PHF official stated.
On the other side, the selection trials for the junior athletes will be conducted at Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium in Karachi on October 15 for the first edition of the junior Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia scheduled to be played
from November 5-12.
