Players hopeful of a comeback after injury riddled season -NHL Special Part 1
Injuries are always tough on a player in the National Hockey League (NHL) due to the fact that the sport, being as extremely physical that it is, at time forces a person to throw in the white flag and choose health over wealth in certain situations.
A number of top level players are looking to rebound and continue their careers of being professional hockey players and play to see another day on the ice in front of the thousands of spectators.
Here are some players who top the list of attempting a comeback season after injuries:
Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins)
There is no doubt in the fact that Sidney Crosby is one of the, if not the most popular players in the NHL and there is no surprise in seeing why.
At the age of 25, Crosby as achieved more than some players due in their entire careers like winning a Stanley Cup, being team captain along with performing every night like a superstar. Crosby has established himself as one of the best to play in the league
ever and is the face of the organisation.
Pittsburgh locked him on for 12-years for a whopping amount of $104.4 million that will keep him well past his prime with the Penguins. The last two seasons, Crosby was dealing with a serve concussion, a neck problem and the choice of whether to perform
at full face.
Luckily, the young All-Star completed the season and performed well in the playoffs to stay healthy and hopefully will stay through the upcoming season.
Simon Gagne (Los Angeles Kings)
Simon Gagne was one of those unfortunate players who also had to suffer from the setbacks of a concussion. He managed to participate in just 34 games during the regular season after suffering a severe concussion following Christmas day.
The 32-year-old, who had been scoring at least 40 the past two seasons, was limited to just seven goals and 10 assists in those 34 games. He has been facing a number of injuries these past few years including concussions and groin injuries.
Next year is one Simon Gagne is looking forward to as he needs to make a comeback and kill off the surrounding rumours that have him put as a lower level player.
Brian Gionta (Montreal Canadiens)
Selected as the 82nd overall back in round-three of 1998 NHL Entry Draft by New Jersey Devils, Brian Gionta has three seasons with Montreal Canadiens complete after being traded by New Jersey Devils back in 2008-2009.
Due to a torn right bicep and previous groin injury, Gionta played in just 31 games, scoring 15 points (8 goals, 7 assists).
At 33-years-old, Gionta still has it in him, but only time will prove that.
