Players not agitated despite recent issues at Paris Saint-Germain – Leonardo
After their second Ligue 1 defeat of the 2011/2012 campaign, there is certainly a lot of doubts surrounding the future of coach Antoine Kombouare. Even before the game against Nancy Lorraine, Kombouare was already under a lot of pressure.
Though the club’s fans have been extremely and understandably patient with the Kanak coach, the same sentiments do not echo from the Qatari owners of the club who want quick results and could prove to be trigger happy if this trend of inconsistency continues.
After a draw in Week 13 of the Ligue 1 action against Bordeaux, rumours had started circulating regarding the future of Kombouare. Carlo Ancelotti, who had been tipped for a return to management at the Camp des Loges at the expense of Kombouare refused to
join the club which means that Kombouare has bought himself more time.
However, in a surprising turn of events, sporting director Leonardo has given his full backing to the under-fire coach despite a morale thrashing defeat against a team that has its own fair share of on-field issues.
“Antoine Kombouare has total reliability and will continue even though there is obvious room for improvement,” said Leonardo while asked about Kombouare’s future at the club.
Kombouare would certainly be thankful for the vote of confidence. With so many issues surrounding the club, PSG’s players are bound to be disturbed. Leonardo however, believes that the players are not ‘agitated’ with the off-field problems.
“I do not think the players have been disturbed by the agitations of this week. In any case, not consciously,” Leonardo implied.
Despite so many players failing to turn out their best performances on Sunday night, Leonardo is taking an optimistic side of things. “We are still joint leaders of the Championelle and I do not see why we should change coaches,” Leonardo said thus making
it clear that the club is not looking anywhere else despite the rumours.
